Cheadle Junior Lacrosse Club
Bath Tour 2009

The Club would like to thank Shane and all the parents who joined the juniors on their tour to Bath and for all their help in organising and looking after the juniors. The Club is committed to help its juniors develop into responsible senior players and with the help and support of parents and volunteers the club will go from strength to strength.
22 parents attended the bath tour all having a great time which I'm sure with their continued help will lead to fund raising and future tours being a great success.

Senior flags - 1st Team Beat Wilmslow to go through to finals

Cheadle vs Wimslow 08/03/2009

Senior flags semi final, held at Cale Green, Stockport.

Cheadle, the league leaders, were always set for a tough battle against last season’s league and flags double winners Wilmslow.  Having previously beaten Wilmslow twice this season Cheadle were confident going into the game though always knew that Wilmslow carried a huge threat with a potent attack and midfield.  Wilmslow flew out of the blocks in the first quarter dominating possession at the centre, controlling the ball in attack and working some good goal scoring opportunities.  Fortunately for Cheadle up and coming goal keeper Rob Williams was in top form and made several top class saves to keep his team in the game.  A well worked team goal from Ady Bennett followed by an excellent individual break-away goal from evergreen Daz Baythorpe enabled Cheadle to stay within touching distance of Wilmslow with the score at 3-2 at the end of the 1st quarter.

The 2nd quarter saw more battle and endeavor from the Cheadle midfielders led by Ian Robinson, Mark Jones and Chris Brady in effort to stop the threatening Wilmslow midfielders and win some ‘precious’ ball in the centre.  As possession started to become more even the attack of Cheadle seemed to be able to cut though the Wilmslow defense at will, Gordon Burdis and Ady Bennett boosted their already impressive season tallies with a  goal each.  Cheadle still left themselves vulnerable at the back due to some sloppy fouls and questionable man downs and the quarter was eventually split 2-2.  After stern words at half time from coaches Pete Condren and Steve Bevington it was Cheadle who hit the ground running, winning the ball in midfield, creating chance after chance in a fluid attack well being rock solid at the back.  Martin Patterson added to his two assists in the 2nd quarter with another assist and a goal in a tireless energetic performance, well Baythorpe rolled back the years playing on the wing and winning himself and Cheadle several crucial possessions.  Cheadle powerfully ran away with the quarter 3-0 and the momentum of the game seemed to have swung towards the green and gold.

The 4th quarter saw more of the same from the Cheadle lads, superb running and fitness drove the game home and as Wilmslow struggled on a big heavy pitch Cheadle were able to capitalise.  Paul Flowers and Martin Patterson took full advantage of a tiring Wilmslow side scoring impressive, crowd pleasing, individual goals. Mini Holdsworth put the gloss on another accomplished individual performance in attack when he got his 2nd of the afternoon getting on the end of a slick team move to slot home from close range.  It was Baythorpe who was still full of running at the end of the game and scored his 4th of the afternoon to go with his two assists.  Wilmslow did score a couple of goals late on, however keeping an attacking unit such as Wilmslow’s down to 7 goals in a semi final shows how strong the Cheadle defense has become.  The one-on-one defense of Mark Jones was outstanding as was the team defense played by the experienced back three of Ryan Bevington, Buster Goodwin and Neil Preston.  The result on the day was an impressive 11-7 victory for the green and gold of Cheadle.

The semi final proved to be an excellent game of lacrosse between two exciting teams, Cheadle’s fitness and willingness to run for each other and leave nothing on the field seemed to prove the difference and as the game got tight it was Cheadle who found the extra gear to go into and take the game away.  Standout performances came from Rob Williams, Martin Patterson and Daz Baythorpe.  Excellent support was given as ever by Cheadle’s stalwart players and fans on the sidelines and the 1st team will be grateful of receiving a similar if not greater level of support for the Flags Final on Sunday the 5th of April against Stockport.
